Proper sleep and rest overnight is of crucial importance for our health. In fact, sleep is one of the key factors for our health as the body heals and repairs itself during the process. However, we rarely get enough sleep anymore. A big part of the world’s population is suffering from different kinds of sleeping disorders, with insomnia being chief among them.

Insomnia is a condition in which you’re unable to fall asleep or sleep more than a few hours overnight. It is particularly dangerous and difficult to resolve, as the treatments depends on the cause. On the subjects of causes, insomnia can be a result of several factors, including what you’ve eaten for dinner or if you’re physically active. No matter the cause, there is a universal natural remedy which can treat your insomnia without any side-effects. The remedy is actually a mixture of two simple ingredients – honey and milk.

If you’re wondering how they work, we’re here to tell you. Honey can control the levels of glucose in the blood and boosts the production and release of tryptophan in the brain. Tryptophan is a precursor to serotonin (sleep hormone) which provides relaxation when you lie down in a dark room. After it enters our blood, serotonin turns to melatonin which helps us enter dreamland. The relaxing and soothing properties of milk and honey combined can significantly boost the production of tryptophan, which will help you fall asleep.

Here’s how to prepare the mixture:

Ingredients
  • 6 oz. milk
  • 1 teaspoon organic honey
  • A drop of vanilla extract
Directions

It’s easy – pour the milk in a saucepan and warm it up on low heat without letting it boil. Now, pour the warm milk in a glass, add the honey, mix until it dissolves and add the vanilla extract in the end. Drink the glass just before going to bed and you can bet that you won’t be waking up in the middle of the night anymore.

Caution: if you’re lactose intolerant, you can switch the milk for almond or soy milk.
